Our aim is to bridge the gap between your medical care providers and natural care providers.
Located in Bayside Melbourne we cover most Inner City Melbourne suburbs to South and South East Melbourne Subrubs.
Most of us don't realise until we are in the midst of the experience, the lack of continuity of care when expecting a baby, through the birth and into the early months of new parenting, first or multiple times around.
Those that have used a doula, will rarely do it again without one, especially for those precious new born weeks that came along so unexpectedly!
Butterfly Beginning’s Doulas provide the following:
Birth Doula
What do you think a Doula does?
* Preparation for Emotional, physical and practical support for the birthing woman and her partner.
* Ensure you have the information needed to make informed decisions.
*Provide reassurance and perspective; make suggestions to support the natural progression of birth and assist with relaxation, massage, positioning, homepathics and other techniques for comfort.
*Your doula becomes familiar with and can help you prepare your plans for pregnancy, birth and the immediate postnatal period and supports you in your decisions.
*You doula is committed to being available to you 24/7(by phone and for the birth) two weeks before your guess date and for 1 week after your baby arrives. So really, your doula could be on call for you for even as long as 6 weeks. You can choose to purchase additional on call weeks if you are concerned about birthing early or wanting additional postnatal on call support. If the baby is premature the doula will make every effort to provide appropriate services and/or the services described but if she is not able, your doula will do their best to find you alternative support options. Pre organised back up can be added when looking at packages.
*Your Doula can answer questions and make suggestions over the phone and will decide with you, at what time she should come to your home/hospital or wait for further change.
* Your Doula remains with you throughout your birthing time.
*Your Doula will usually stay with you for one or two hours after your baby arrives to support bonding and feeding, until you decide that your family are ready for private time together.
*Your Doula would like to meet with you on day 2 or 3 after the birth then at around week 2 or 3 after the birth to see you and your baby and to review the birth.
The promise of a Doula
1. You can not hurt my feelings
2. I won’t lie to you
3. I will help you feel safe
4. I cannot speak for you, but I will make sure that you have a voice and I will make sure you are heard
How to choose me...
Our initial meeting (the interview) does not obligate you in any way. I will encourage you to look around as choosing the right support for you is very important.
There is no charge for the interview process.
If you choose me as your Doula...
I visit you according to the package you choose from my services.
I do prefer to meet you and your partner at least twice before the birth to become acquainted with both of you, to discuss your wishes and concerns and to explore the ways in which I can support you both.
I help you to prepare for the birth and after. I provide you with skills and tools to use not only in labour, but you will find them useful in everyday life. I can help with appointments and negotiate the system if necessary. I provide encouragement, and support for feeding and understanding you baby’s cues, and much more...
I will provide for your physical comfort and emotional support.
I will not give you advice or make decisions for you, but I will endeavour to provide unbiased information to you so that you can make your own, informed decisions.
A ‘doula’ does not have any clinical responsibility and does not do any of the following:
* Blood pressure, foetal assessments, vaginal examinations or take the clients temperature (even if qualified to do so) and cannot make decisions for you but will have worked with you to support you in being confident in your decisions.

The Sleep School Doula
Baby Whispering....
This area is of particular interest for Dionne Finnegan at Butterfly Beginnings. With over 17 years experience and working with people of all ages to establish healthy sleep cycles for them, she is more than qualified to help your family to achieve a thriving household and a peaceful nights sleep!
In home assessments and guidance for exhausted families!
Helping you find what works best in your family for sleep patterns and routines. Specialising and experienced in sleep settling for all ages, from newborns to adults.
Whether you are wanting your child to sleep in their own bed or have them sleep through rather than waking multiple times through the night, we can help you to achieve this!
The Problem?
But I have read all the books...
Often we spend so much of the time reading books about what we should do, we forget that the book was written by another human being with their own passions and experiences. We forget that just because one thing works for one family, it may not work for another. Some things, few, but some, will work universally.
I am trying to do what they do...
First of all, who's they?
We live in a society that is so socially and multiculturally diverse that just because the stay at home mum co sleeps and your child sleeps in their own room, does not make either of you a better parent, it just means you do things differently to teach and raise your child with different values and skills for life!Do want to co sleep? do you want your baby in their own room? Do you want to breast feed or formula feed? Do you want to use a baby monitor or not use one? Do you want to baby wear or allow your baby to settle away from you? These are all very personal decisions to make, and there is no right or wrong, but you are the only one who can make them and we can help you though your decisions. :O)
The Solution!
Bringing us in to assess your family environment and talk with you as a 'unique' family, you are taking the first step to creating confidence in your choices. We are sure you are already doing everything you can in the very best way.
Our role will be to help you structure something that works for you and not what the books tell us we should be doing as if it will work for everyone! Who is everyone anyway?
By having someone help you with this in your own home you can be assured that there is no sudden change in environment to unsettle your new found skills and patterns!
