A little about Doula Dee...
Please feel free to download an little personal story that Dionne would like to share. Even if this sees one person seek more information then writing and sharing this has been worthwhile!
Dionne Started her journey into parenting and birth work began when she was only eight. No, no, not like that...
Just imagine, a little eight year old, writing into a note book about how to be a parent. That is one interesting read!
With her own four children, starting with what is now considered to be a young mum, Dionne began a journey into the different styles of what parenting was really about. Now when we say parenting, this includes whilst pregnant, as really, the role of a parent starts from before and when you conceive.
It is a this point you are nurturing, protecting and teaching your unborn without even realising it!
Dionne was one of the first in her friends and family circle to have children she became the go to person for advice and support.
Helping friends through settling their little ones, breastfeeding guidance, guidance, understanding boundaries and techniques for toddlers and encouraging gentle birthing. Dionne (Dee) soon found that through word of mouth she was helping mothers who were at their wits end, become confident and bond beautifully with their newborns and integrate sibling bonding with ease.
Since 1995 she has gained knowledge, wisdom and experience within the realm of pregnancy, birth and parenting. She has a special gift in understanding infants and a mothers connection or disconnection to her unborn or new born child.
In 2004 was when the knowledge of "what is a 'Doula'?", came to be in Dionnes' awareness. After sitting and observing a dear friend who was having trouble with feeding and bonding with her new 3 week old baby, she offered a weekend stay. Dionne was thrilled for her friend and partner had accepted the offer. That 3 days and 2 night period was enough to change everything around. This new mum established breastfeeding and bonding, with her little 3 1/2 week old, and by the time the maternal child health nurse arrived, she walked into a peaceful home where mum and bub happy and well. It was that maternal child health nurse, that suggested Dionne look into Doula'ing!
In 2008 Dionne started her journey into Relaxation Therapies with a passion for Postnatal parenting support. Her massage therapy studies consisted of an extensive, 2 year, almost full time course. At this time, she also completed certificates in Hypnotherapy and Reiki. This added to her knowledge of healing unconscious patterns in negative behaviour, anxiety and physical 'dis'ease'.
In 2011, she then started to explore further into advance her knowledge in Hypnotherapy and Life Coaching education and certification with Neuro Linguistic Programming and Time Line Therapy Techniques(TM).
Within that same year started her part time course into becoming a Perinatal Doula. Dionne soon discovered through her studies with the Australian Doula College that there was much more to being a doula than just postnatal support. The new understanding of how the anatomy of the body works in birth and what role emotions and instinct play within our now, medicalised, birthing world, has been eye opening for Dionne. The journey within the training's she has undertaken as led to an understanding of her intuitive gift for mother infant relationships and support.
For over 25 years Dionne has had her own experiences with mental health and mood disorders and with antenatal and postnatal depression and psychosis and understands the road to recovery. She can empathise with families and also give tools and resources on how to fully recover from such a debilitating state to be in.
If you are reading this, then get excited as you have stumbled onto a little pot of gold in the services that Butterfly Beginnings can provide for you to make the most out of your life!
Being a Birth Doula is so much more than just birth support!
Dionne has spend the last 3 years gaining knowledge and experience and resources in the birth world to help provide services to make pregnancy more relaxing, fun and birth choice experiences empowering and parenting easier.
One of Dee's favourite saying is.... "prevention is better than cure", so why not set your self up for success from the very beginning? especially when it comes to infant settling and feeding. Placenta Encapsulation is one of her favourite modalities as health and well being holistically is a passion and PND is no laughing matter. If there is something that can support an easy and gentle recovery, this is where Butterfly Beginnings shines through!
Dionne is continuously increasing her knowledge, wisdom and experience in the areas around fertility through to early parenting, through courses, workshops, books, clients, friends, family and the many connections in the community.
A personal note from Dionne, as a Doula....
My birth work has taken me to many different care settings including birth centers, private and public hospitals and also home births. I live in the Melbourne suburbs but am happy to travel to meet couples, either at their homes or an agreed meeting place which is suitable for both of us. I have been privileged to work with families from different cultural, spiritual and religious backgrounds.
I am experienced in life coaching and hypnosis techniques. I tailor programs for hypno-relaxed birthing to your needs.
I am also supporting women through Completely Natural Birth, inductions, c- sections, water births, VBACS, and instrumental deliveries. Whatever your choices, with me as your doula, you will be making informed decisions for you and your family!
I am a ‘hands on’ post natal doula, supporting new mums, often not having met them till after they have had their babies.
This is a really important time where I am committed to nurturing a new mother and supporting and building her confidence in any way I can. This may include breast feeding advice or guidance, settling, looking after other siblings, cooking and taking care of baby while mum sleeps, normalising new born behaviour.
Supporting the mother at this time especially if she does not have adequate family support can lessen the risks of post natal depression.
I get excited when a new call comes through as I know then, that another family has seen the value in preparing and continuity of care, and when their medical care providers are on board, I see families have the happiest and most joyous birth experiences.
We would love to hear from you with regards to any questions you have.
